LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – Halfacre Construction Company, a Lakewood Ranch-based commercial construction company, recently started construction on a new 21,000-square-foot building at Wimauma Elementary School in Hillsborough County.
Halfacre Construction Company will act as the construction manager for the project.
Designed by Hepner Architects, the newest addition with covered walkways will house classrooms and other educational spaces for elementary children. The approximately $5 million project will be phased to accommodate an active campus and provide the least disruption to the teaching and learning environment.
Located at 5709 Hickman Street in Wimauma, the current campus consists of 9 buildings. The campus’ existing buildings will remain operational. The completion date is slated for summer 2021.
“The addition to the school has been something I have waited for since my arrival six years ago,” said Ismael F. Lebron-Bravo, principal at Wimauma Elementary School. “Wimauma Elementary has been serving the community for more than 90 years and generations of family members have passed through our halls. The additional space will allow for enhanced and engaging lessons and provide any educational supports needed. We will also be prepared for the future families that will be moving into the area. The project will bring together the old with the new, and staff, students, and parents are excited about the changes at the school.”
Built in 1926, Wimauma Elementary School once served grades kindergarten through twelfth grade, but now houses grades pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Situated in the small, rural town of Wimauma, the neighborhood elementary school serves a diverse student body of close to 600 students.
