When it comes to making choices that will help protect our planet, Halfacre Construction Company strives to do their part in everything that they do. Back in 2014, the company was awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its work on the Lockheed Martin Tallevast Remediation Facility at 1600 Tallevast Road in Tallevast, Fla. And while that was already eight years ago, the company’s dedication to sustainability hasn’t wavered.
Fast forward to 2022, and the commercial construction company is currently wrapping up the $26 million R.L. Anderson Administration Center, also known as the South County Courthouse, for Sarasota County to ensure that it will also be USGBC LEED Silver Certified in accordance with the county’s 2030 initiative to build highly energy efficient buildings.
The two-phase project includes the construction of a new parking area along South Tamiami Trail (U.S. 41), rearrangement of existing parking facilities, stormwater improvements, a new 40,000-square-foot court building and a remodel of the two existing R. L. Anderson buildings.
To meet Sarasota County’s goals for sustainability and energy efficiency at the South County Courthouse project, Halfacre has installed rooftop photovoltaic (solar) panels, LED lighting and numerous energy management systems, all of which will reduce overall energy costs and power consumed by this new project.
Outside of the initiative for Sarasota County, green building is something that all construction companies should practice in order to achieve environmental sustainability. High-performance buildings are defined as buildings that deliver a relatively higher level of energy-efficiency performance or greenhouse-gas reduction than what is required by building codes or other regulations, and can have many benefits, including lower energy bills, reduced pollution and CO2 emissions, natural light and higher resilience.
Over the years, Halfacre Construction Company has offered its expertise as a green building provider with the resources available to build viable, effective alternatives to reduce energy consumption and preserve natural resources. Likewise, a number of their staff includes USGBC certified professionals who have demonstrated proficiency in green building practices and who possess a thorough grasp of the LEED Green Building Rating System.
In continuing to think with the environment in mind, Halfacre Construction Company will no doubt forge ahead in developing the latest in energy-efficient, green building solutions for commercial and industrial building projects to create a better environment for future generations.
