As a 54-year-old company, Halfacre Construction Company has a legacy of community building behind it and Florida’s future ahead. Standing strong as a premier builder in southwest Florida since 1970, Halfacre has grown as a company in more ways than one, all while delivering start-to-finish commercial construction services and never leaving a single detail unchecked.
During the economic downturn of the mid-2000s, the construction of office headquarters dwindled, retail contracts became scarce, and corporate expansions that had shown promise were postponed. Pivoting, Halfacre looked for other ways to diversify its offerings and started bidding on more government work that included several roadwork projects, paving the way for a robust future portfolio of infrastructure work.
Fast forward to today, roadwork has become a predominant service of Halfacre, with more than $80 million in road projects under its belt. From comprehensive road construction services, including new road builds, expansions, and maintenance, Halfacre employs the latest technologies and materials to ensure durability and safety for every project.
Most recently, Halfacre was awarded a contract for construction management at-risk services for the 75th Street West Improvements project for Manatee County. The $24 million project includes work at 75th Street West from 20th Avenue to Manatee Avenue – at 75th Street West at Manatee Avenue – Turn Lane Improvement, and an 11th Avenue West and 75th Street West - Reclaimed Water Main Improvement.
In Charlotte County, Halfacre was awarded the Gasparilla Road project back in 2014, a $25 million improvement that calls for widening Gasparilla. The firm also built a new road for a massive Cheney Bros. distribution facility and widened a 15-mile stretch of Bermont Road.
Halfacre has also been involved in a number of other roadwork projects throughout Sarasota County, like the Cocoanut Avenue Improvement project and the Myrtle Street Improvement project.
The Cocoanut Avenue Improvement project included replacing a wastewater force main piping that was more than 50 years old, as well as the replacement of the asbestos cement (AC) force main pipe in the Osprey Avenue ROW just north of 10th Street. Additionally, two crossings were installed, and one was tied into the existing system.
The Myrtle Street Improvement Project spanned from the intersection of U.S. 41 and Myrtle Street to the bridge west of the U.S. 301 and Myrtle Street intersection and consisted of milling and resurfacing with minor sidewalk improvements, widening and lighting, and reconstruction of the road, including curb and gutter with bike lanes, sidewalks, and lighting.
In showing its strength in projects of all scales with precision and efficiency, Halfacre Construction Company was awarded a continuing contract for Hardee County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) in late 2023.
Over the course of a 12-year partnership, Halfacre has worked on several projects in the central Florida region through the Hardee County IDA, including the Hardee County Commerce Park expansion, Carlton Street extension, Martin Luther King water main extension, Will Duke/US 17 utilities extension, Florida Avenue and REA Road utilities extension, Florikan, and Pacer Marine expansion, among others.
For the team at Halfacre, it’s more than just infrastructure; it’s building communities. All of the firm’s projects are designed to enhance connectivity, accessibility, and the overall quality of life for the communities served, and engaging with local stakeholders to ensure projects meet the specific needs and expectations of the work areas. With decades of experience and a commitment to excellence, Halfacre remains dedicated to delivering infrastructure that stands the test of time.
